This distillery stands by Port Ellen, a gateway to the South of Isle of Islay. It was established in 1825. The distillery was run by many managers and it was closed and reopened few times. It finally closed in 1983 and pot stills were removed. It's now a big malting plant and they supply malts to other distilleries.
When I enter Port Ellen with ferry boat, I miss the big red pagoda that used to be the symbol of the distillery. The warehouse is now in condition and used by Lagavulin distillery.

アイラ島南の玄関口ポートエレン港に面して建っている。創業は1825年だがその後何度となく経営者が変わり、閉鎖再開を繰り返した。1983年に閉鎖、ポットスチルは取り外された。現在はモルティングを行う巨大な工場となって、他の蒸留所に麦芽を供給しいてる。
ポートエレン港にフェリー入港の際、蒸留所のシンボルともなっていた大きな赤いパコダは最近取り壊され、寂しさを感じる。熟成庫は整備され現在ラガヴーリン蒸留所が使用している
